The name Guinea came from a childhood memory of her grandfather’s accounts from tailors and wine merchants being in priced in guinea’s. The guinea coin was in use up until the 1970s, and when Judie came across a guinea coin from 1775 at the back of a drawer, she knew she had found the perfect brand name. For 400 years, the guinea, a solid gold coin, was used in Britain to buy only the most luxurious of items. From racehorses, to paintings, to wine and fine tailoring, all were priced and sold in guineas, and so the gold guinea became synonymous with quality – the perfect name for a clothing brand.
